Eric Mistretta (born 1985) is an artist living and working in Queens, NY. A Queens native,
Mistretta received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. His work has been exhibited
in multiple solo and group exhibitions in New York and Italy, as well as several solo
presentations at art fairs including Spring Break Art Show in NYC, where Mistretta’s installation
was named by Artsy as one of their Top Picks. Mistretta was also recently featured in the
Northeast edition of New American Paintings – a juried publication highlighting emerging
painters in the United States. His work fuses elements of language and imagery to create visual
hybrids that are at once familiar, but resonate with a sense of strangeness and absurdity. By
combining elements of painting, sculpture and installation, Mistretta explores the relationship
between comedy and tragedy, highlighting scenarios in which the two forces ultimately depend
on each other.
